Ferb Hams is an Irish jeweller and artist based in the UK.
By jewellery, I mean bespoke, custom, and completely handmade accessories and pieces in precious metals and mixed media. No two pieces are the same; that is the point. Ferb Hams is a one-person operation: every piece, in its entirety, is designed, carved, cast, and created by myself in my tiny studio. If you buy from me, you (might have the ) only one in the world.
I work across a range of mediums: metal, ceramic, and textiles. At present, the immediacy of metal is especially appealing to me, though I’m experimenting with ways to bring other elements into my practice.
My metal journey began by pouring aluminium onto different surfaces with a pair of BBQ tongs, to see what shapes would be produced. Then, with the help of YouTube and burnt fingers, I built up my current skill set.
My influences are varied: medieval art, shapes on the ground, my mum’s aluminium hip replacement — really anything. But what appeals to me most is the conception of an idea and solving the problems with my hands. It is through that creative process that most inspiration arises.
Without sounding arrogant or delusional — or both — I can make anything, with the right incentive. So if you want it, ask, and I’ll figure out the rest.
